From chin hair to peach fuzz, women are shaving their faces for a variety of reasons. Here’s everything you need to know about dermaplaning

Marilyn Monroe was known to be a skilled shaver, and more and more women are following suit.
The search for youth and beauty never stops. Dermaplaning may be fashionable right now, but the benefits of shaving have been known since the dawn of humanity. Dermaplaning is a type of exfoliation performed by a professional beauty expert to remove dead skin and face fuzz, leaving you glowing and beautiful. We do ask that you do not shave your face with your father’s razor. Let the professionals handle it.
We spoke to Naomi Bell, an expert therapist with over ten years in the industry, about everything you need to know about dermaplaning. She is also the founder of UAE’s NRBeauty salon.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation technique; it is a safe and straightforward procedure to deeply exfoliate the skin’s epidermis and remove the fine vellus hairs (peach fuzz).
Is it possible to achieve glowing, soft skin with dermaplaning?
Yes, Dermaplaning will deeply exfoliate the skin, so your skin will instantly appear brighter and feel much softer, leaving you with that signature post dermaplane glow.

Why is dermaplaning known as the newest oldest beauty secret?
Dermatologists and plastic surgeons have practised Dermaplaning for over 40 years. Dermaplaning was initially performed as an alternative to chemical exfoliation and later used to prepare the skin for resurfacing treatments and deeper chemical peels. This simple beauty ritual has even been said to date back to the days of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
Is shaving our face also part of dermaplaning?
There is a common misconception that dermaplaning the skin and shaving are the same things. However, during a dermaplaning treatment, the focus is the skin benefits. The vellus hair removed during the treatment is just a bonus of the dermaplaning but not the sole purpose.
Can we shave our face at home using a regular shaver or epilator?
No, don’t do it! Purchasing a razor online or using an epilator will not give you the same results as a professional dermaplaning treatment. People need to understand that their therapist will use a sterile surgical scalpel to dermaplane their skin in the salon. First and foremost, this is removing the superficial layer of dead skin. They will also gain deeper hair removal as an added benefit during the treatment. When using a DIY shaving device at home, you’re getting just the hair removal aspect and no skin benefit or deep exfoliation. The risk of infection and skin irritation due to micro-skin injuries during DIY Dermaplane is very high.
How long does a dermaplaning session last in your salon?
Our Platinum Dermaplaning Facial takes around 45 minutes and includes a Lemon Peel, Extractions and Custom Hydrojelly Mask. Dermaplaning can also be added to any of our Elemis Biotec Facials for 105AED.
